Tigers lose second ODI against Afghanistan

A captaincy knock by Asghar Stanikzai helped Afghanistan to leveled the Rocket three-match ODI series 1-1 after beating Bangladesh by two wickets in the nail-biting second ODI held on Wednesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.


Chasing a winning target of 209 runs set by Bangladesh, Afghanistan reached home making 212 runs with two balls to spare, reports BSS.


Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai led from the front with a responsible 57 runs off 95 balls and shared 107 runs partnership with Mohammad Nabi 49 runs off 61 balls for the 5th wicket stand to take his side closer of the victory, after the visitors faced wobble early in the innings.


Cameo Najibullah Zadran added a useful contribution of 22 runs and played a vital role behind the victory for his side.


Al rounder Shakib Al Hasan continued his prolific form as he grabbed four wickets conceding 47 runs from his allotted 10 overs. Debutant Mosaddek Hossain supported him with two wickets giving away 30 runs.


Mohammad Nabi of Afghanitan was named the player of the match for his impressive performance in the match.


Earlier, debutant Mosaddek Hossain responsible batting display guided Bangladesh to score 208 for all in 49.2 overs against Afghanistan, after Bangladesh were forced to bat first by Afghanistan.


The two Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar started cautiously but the host side face batting jolt losing top orders in a quick succession.


But, debutant Mosaddek revived the Bangladesh inning with a priceless run-a-ball 45 runs to help his side to cross the 200 runs landmark after the damage. He smashed four boundaries and two towering over boundaries to entertain the crowds in the big bowl.


Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim (38), Mahmudullah (25) Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar (20) failed to cover a big knock in regular intervals in the face of tight bowling attacks by the visitors, especially right hand spinner Rashid Khan.


Opener Tamim was the first batsman to go after being clean bowled by Naveen Ul Haq another opener Soumya Sarkar immediately followed the footprint of Tamim giving a catch to Hashmatullah off Mirwais Ashraf delivery.


Bangladesh plunged into a deep trouble when the lost their two dependable batsmen Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim. But Mosaddek was firm with his bat and saved his team from total embarrassment.


Rashid Khan was the pick of Afghanistan bowler taking three wickets for 35 runs. He was well supported by Mohammad Nabi and Mirwais Ashraf, who both picked up two wickets conceding 16 and 23 runs respectively.


The third and final day/night ODI between the two sides will be played on Saturday (October 1) at the same venue.
